Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2
I would most certainly say hope is my word for the year. But my scripture for the year has got to be Romans 12:2. I can’t remember where I heard this scripture, but I remember when I did it stuck with me. It stuck with me because conformity is my norm.
My first reaction upon waking up in the morning is to blend in as much as possible and find ways to NOT be noticed. But then I read this scripture, and I find myself convicted of trying to be like everyone else. Then when I embrace the truth within this scripture my heart is full!
One thing I do not like, cliques. Can’t stand them, and I will admit that my heart towards them causes me to judge and even criticize anyone that belongs to a clique. My heart is mostly drawn to people who would not fit in anywhere. But yet my first reaction is to fit in somewhere and not stand out. Cliques are safe. You surround yourself with people who are just like you and that gives you confidence. But being out in the world without the safety of your group can be scary.
But we are not called to find groups or cliques. We are told never to conform, not fit in, but instead be transformed into the person GOD created us to be.
Most often this uniqueness can really trouble us because we will stand out and be different. There wouldn’t be a clique where we would fit in because everyone is different, and if we are embracing this uniqueness in our life, then there would be not another person like us!
So this year I am learning to embrace who God has called me to be. He has given me a specific vision and a specific calling and my job now is to learn how NOT to conform to this world and how to be confident in the person that He has created me to be. SO far it hasn’t been easy, BUT it has been such a blessing coming to a place where I am free to be all that He created me to be.
