Sometimes I will sit and wonder when some things in life will be made right. When will God make sure that the wrong that has been done to me, my family, or anyone close to me be made better and fair.
Getting over an offense is not easy. If there is a conflict in your life then there probably isn’t any peace. We all pray for world peace, but I think as Christians we know that’s not going to happen until Christ returns. But we still strive for peace and unity in everything that we do.
The Jews thought Jesus was going to bring that vindication and bring justice to the the rulers that were so merciless in how they treated the Jews. I think anyone living when Jesus was born would feel the same way, they just wanted justice and they were so tired of the oppression in their life, they so desperately wanted a Savior in their life.
Well they got one and yet they didn’t recognize him as their Messiah because He didn’t save them like they had thought he would save them.
He didn’t avenge their injustices quite like they had hoped.
Nope, instead of bringing down their enemies with a sword, or even plagues like God did for the Israelites when Moses rescued them from slavery, Jesus was born so that He could die for us.
But what does this really give us? I’m sure a lot of His followers felt this was yet another defeat, and I’m sure they felt pretty hopeless looking ahead because their hope was hanging from a cross.
I can only imagine what was going through the heart of Jesus’ mother as she saw her son hanging on the cross and yet knowing even what she sacrifices in order to be the one who birthed him into this world.
But in this is a huge lesson, Jesus avenges our oppression with peace. You see, there’s one thing you can’t have as a corrupt ruler (unless you know Jesus and believe in Him) and that’s peace. Our justice comes with the fact that we have peace in our heart and mind, and they don’t.
Jesus was born so He could give us peace. I am so thankful for that, today!
