Last week a friend asked me if I felt liberated, and I told her that is the most perfect word for what I feel right now.
Definition of liberated: showing freedom from social conventions or traditional ideas.
Honestly when I think about how I feel right now, I can’t but giggle.
I do feel liberated.
I have found the power of the Holy Spirit hiding in the most unconventional places.
I don’t mean to sound trite, but I don’t need the things I thought I needed in order to experience God to the fullest.
I am liberated and it’s an amazing feeling.
In my new liberation, what have I found?
I have found worship of God alone.
You see, I thought I needed certain things to worship God. I’m not blaming anyone, but they were ideals set into my heart by other people.
If I could just do X, Y, Z then I will be in a close and personal relationship with God and therefore experience His favor and blessings over my life.
But let me reveal some amazing truth to you all, and maybe you can feel liberated, too.
The only thing you need to do is worship God.
Let Holy Spirit reveal to you how this is done.
Don’t ever feel pressure or guilted into doing something that sounds good & right.
Do what is good & right because you want to worship God with your whole being.
Sometimes you need to say No.
Remember that God sustains you, NOT how much you serve at church, or even how much you give.
I have found that there aren’t “old ways”, just sin covered by grace. We can say NO if we want to. It might be hard, but it is possible.
Who or what we perform for has become an idol in our lives.
I have learned to not perform for friends, family, or anyone else. The ones that truly LOVE me stick around in spite of my flaws.
Can I just tell you, that God will never allow you to slip back into your old patterns. When we completely surrender to HIM that’s when we find true freedom.
I feel liberated because I am tearing down every idol and false god that is in my life.
I feel free because I’m not worried that God will only bless my good performance, and punish my “bad” performance.
I am free because I know the truth.
I pray that you will know this truth.
I pray that understanding will rule in your heart when you discover the truth, and you will know that everyone is growing and maturing. We are all human.
Adam and Eve experienced consequences in the garden when they said YES to their flesh.
I can feel the freedom pulsating through me because I have said “No” and I’m not worried that there will be consequences to me saying NO to some things.
God was trying to teach Adam and Eve how to say NO.
It’s easy to say yes to everything. Our flesh WANTS to say YES to everything!
I have taken a risk, and with that risk I am trusting God.
So I hope you will, too.
I hope you will be free, and liberated, to fully and completely pursue a relationship with the One true GOD!
Thank you, Jesus. AMEN!
