I think a lot of people can admit there are a lot of things they don’t like about themselves, myself included. For me, I often find myself embracing moments of guilt and shame especially when I am feeling down or depressed.
There are just some facets of my life and my personality that I’d rather not have other people see.
But the fact is God sees all of it.
Sometimes I wonder how He is able to get me through some of those tough times, but He does. In fact, some of the hardest situations I have ever gone through in my life will never go away.
Jesus talks about taking up His yoke because His burden is light. But too often we take up the yoke of guilt and shame and the burden of our flaws are constantly weighing us down. But with Jesus our flaws and those inescapable moments of pain and trauma are a bit lighter to bear.
Maybe this Christmas season someone will ask you what’s the point in believing in Jesus.
You can respond by telling them that there are a lot of reasons to believe in Jesus, but today you are choosing to believe in Him because He is able to make your burden lighter through grace, mercy, forgiveness, love, and acceptance.
Sharing the gospel this Christmas season can simply be reflecting the acceptance Jesus has given you onto someone else.
He most certainly accepts us the way we are, but we avoid accepting ourselves and others, flaws and all. But in sharing the gospel we can simply share what it means to be fully accepted and the freedom that comes with that acceptance.

Our faith begins with what we know and believe about God. Our faith will carry us how far we are willing to let it take us. Faith is a choice and we need to begin by choosing to believe in Jesus and His power to move mountains, heal the sick, and save us from all our sins through His sacrifice on the cross.
