In order to have the confidence to flee from a situation that was bad news for me I first had to come to the realization that nothing will ever separate me from Christ’s love for me.
It’s difficult to be confident enough to let go, and remove yourself from a situation, that if you are honest with yourself, might be something that makes you feel better, special, or it just makes you feel good and confident for a moment.
But in your heart you know it’s wrong, and you know that it’s time to flee from the situation.
Just the other night I was talking to my husband about how I’m just not comfortable doing what some might think is ok, or just living my life from one blessing to another.
Just because we have STUFF doesn’t mean we have Jesus.
The rich young ruler is a perfect example of that, he had wealth and he was spiritually well off, too. Obeying all the commandments he wondered what more he had to do.
Was he asking to maybe get Jesus’ approval, maybe kind of fishing for that acknowledgment or validation?
Or was he asking because he was feeling a bit insecure with where he was at the moment, and felt like he should be doing just a little bit more?
Either way, he had all that he had, but he did not have Jesus.
This left him feeling sad and rejected. This leaves me to wonder what was he putting his confidence in? Little did the rich young ruler realize that all the things he took pride in were the very things keeping him from Jesus.
That’s what I think is one thing that keeps us from growing, and even brings us to a point of compromise – we obtain our confidence from the wrong things.
But knowing that nothing can separate us from God’s love & knowing that we are loved, and most importantly loving God back with our entire being, that will give us the confidence to do the right thing, to be something different, and to never compromise!
God’s love for us, and our love for Him, gives us confidence.
So today just pause for a minute and reflect on God’s love for you. Then examine your heart to find what gives you confidence, if it is anything but God’s love for you and your faith in Jesus then I can imagine there might be some compromise in your life. It’s not something you should dwell on, but it is something we ALL need to be aware of and most definitely need to flee from! Christ came to set us free, that is one of the biggest gifts he has given us!

Our faith begins with what we know and believe about God. Our faith will carry us how far we are willing to let it take us. Faith is a choice and we need to begin by choosing to believe in Jesus and His power to move mountains, heal the sick, and save us from all our sins through His sacrifice on the cross.
